The Porsche 944 is a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sports car, designed to replace the Porsche 924. It was introduced in 1982 as a new “entry level” model which was positioned below the 911 model.

The 944 is powered by the M30 engine (which was also used in Volkswagen models). The engine has four cylinders and twin overhead camshafts for both of the two valves per cylinder. It has an air-cooled design and displaces 2.7 litres (2,687 cc) with a bore of 82 mm (3.2 inches) and stroke of 72 mm (2.8 inches). The power output ranges from 100 horsepower to 200 horsepower, depending on what variant is selected; this makes it more powerful than the 924’s

In contrast to its predecessor, it offered the driver both comfort and performance with near 50/50 weight distribution for superior handling, stability and ride quality. It has been called one of Porsche’s most successful models because more than 150,000 units were sold over its lifetime. Production ran from 1982 to 1991 with a brief hiatus in 1986
